Olympique Lyonnais needed a stroke of fortune to overcome AS Nancy-Lorriane 1-0 and keep their two-point buffer over FC Girondins de Bordeaux with one game to go.

Lyon can take the title once again next Saturday away to AJ Auxerre after a second-half own goal gave them three precious points in Ligue 1. The champions appeared to be on their way to a third successive draw until a free-kick caused confusion in the Nancy area with defender Andre Luiz and goalkeeper Gennaro Bracigliano colliding and sending the ball into the net. Alain Perrin's side then needed a superb save by Grégory Coupet from Marc-Antoine Fortuné to preserve their advantage.

Bordeaux will now have to win at RC Lens and hope Lyon slip up to take the championship but at least they took the race to the final day with a 2-0 win at home to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard with goals from Fernando and Marouane Chamakh securing their success. Olympique de Marseille missed the chance to move above third-placed Nancy into the final UEFA Champions League qualifying space as their goalless draw at Le Mans UC 72 left them a point adrift.

LOSC Lille Métropole are now fifth after a 2-1 win against Lens, a point ahead of AS Saint-Etienne and Stade Rennais FC after their respective 1-1 draw at Paris Saint-Germain FC and 2-1 win against Toulouse FC. The result for PSG was vital as it lifted them out of the relegation zone, a point clear of third-bottom Lens and Toulouse. RC Strasbourg are down, however, after their 4-1 defeat by SM Caen. Elsewhere, OGC Nice won 2-1 at Valenciennes FC, likewise FC Lorient away to FC Metz, while AS Monaco FC eased past Auxerre 3-0.
