ROME (AFP) - Napoli's Uruguayan striker Marcelo Zalayeta, injured in Sunday's home loss to Roma, has snapped his a ligament in his left knee, the club said Tuesday, and will likely miss the rest of the season.

Zalayeta, who only arrived from Juventus last summer, will be operated on in the coming days, the club added.

He is the midtable club's top scorer to date this season with eight goals in 22 games.
