ROME (SW) - AS Roma captain Francesco Totti blasted Danish player Christian Poulsen, who recently made a move to Serie A rivals Juventus.

The two players first met in a group match at Euro 2008 between Italy and Denmark, and Totti ended up spitting his opponent in his face, with a three-match ban as result.

Poulsen realizes that it won't be easy to gain popularity in Italy after that event, especially since Totti claimed that it was the Dane's behaviour that triggered the whole situation in the first place.

In an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Totti gave his view on the matter: "He should have worried before. It's easy to talk now. Right after the match he should have gone to the arbitrary commission to tell the truth."

As far as Poulsen's value for Juventus goes, Totti's opinion is even more negative: "I think that Poulsen won't add anything to Juventus."

Francesco, take it easy. I still like you because you contributed to our WC triumph but you are not a saint.

Kujikirii July 20th, 2008 22:16

I never like Totti since i was a kid. What an arrogant person he is.

Tontodonati July 20th, 2008 22:53

Kujikirii, if you disliked Totti since you were a kid, you must still be a kid because Totti has been playing professionally for only 10 years at the most!

nassief45 July 21st, 2008 00:56

only 10 years!!!
hahahaha tontodonati
i know your old but your memory cant be THAT bad!
also totti is the man save the fact that he is easily provoked
but seriously, what else did u expect

Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 02:04

nassief45, I said 10 years "PROFESSIONA:LY!"
Don't tell me that you knew Totti even before he made it with the first team, Roma!

jxp101 July 21st, 2008 03:57

Lets face it...Totti is highly over-rated. Can't see what he has done that's so great in his era - esp when you look at the likes Zidane, Figo, Beckham & Ronaldo.
I don;t know why Roma fans gets so excited sometimes.

DaJohnner July 21st, 2008 05:15

totti...f'em

kaiser1974 July 21st, 2008 05:40

i think players with attitudes like totti (rooney, ballack, lehmann, etc.) are good for the game. they spice it up a little. i hate seein a game of nothing but honorable decent players who are afraid to get in a scrap

nassief45 July 21st, 2008 07:43

tontodonati,
he started his professional career with the roma first team in the 1992-1993season
do the math!!!

Giorgio July 21st, 2008 10:21

Totti is just being pathetic. But then, this is the kind of behaviour that one would expect from him.
And I will never forget the disgusting act of spitting on Poulsen. Just for that, he should have been banned for a year !!!!!

BesTalentScout July 21st, 2008 11:13

how low has Juve sunk.............when Juve had players like Baggio and others in the squad...........

players like Poulsen can't even be good enough as reserves..................

ballboys maybe..............LOL

BesTalentScout July 21st, 2008 11:15

Giorgio

you won't be saying that if Totti had led Italy to the Euro that year !

actually, Totti should be thrilled that Poulsen is coming to Serie A..............Totti can spit on Poulsen again !

LOL................

Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 12:20

nassief45, in 1992-1993 season, Totti was 13 years old. He's 31 now. You do the math!

Giorgio July 21st, 2008 14:00

TalentScout,
Actually I would say exactly the same thing, even if Totti had led Italy (??? - he was never the captain, not team leader, in any way) to Euro glory.
This has nothing to do with winning or losing, it has to do with principles and civilised behaviour !!

Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 14:18

nassief45. 13 in my last post to you should have read 16. A small typo error. Totti became a regular with Rome in 1995 even though he had played a few games before 95. In any case, I doubt that you or Kujikirii knew him at that time. Look under Kujikirii's post for the proper contest!

RGPII1 July 21st, 2008 15:30

Is Totti acting out of line here? I haven't been fans of his teams, but I know AS Roma means everything to him and I know Totti felt the events in Portugal highly dishonored Totti himself. He came out with public apologies and all of that.

RGPII1 July 21st, 2008 16:15

Check Totti also, he has done charitable work, work for Unicef. This trouble he had in the '04 Euro Cup may have cast him in a bad light in regards to that work. I use to visit his site in which he was connected with Unicef. On the other hand, I have heard he's done things like he did with Poulsen before but I don't know that for certain.

onelovesoccer July 21st, 2008 16:37

i wonder what poulsen said to him

jxp101 July 21st, 2008 21:44

Notice how the Italian soccer - is full of diving, spitting, calling each others mothers names, corruption....they have a real problem in Serie A in general. Italians are notorious for diving. Uefa should have banned Totti at the time for 1 year - its so foul to spit on anyone.....

Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 22:10

Jxp101, we've heard that music too many times. It's time to change the disc from 78 rpm to 45 or whatever rpm they use today. You would have done much better if you had completed your profile. But maybe even you have no idea of who you are or where you come from!

indsc4 July 22nd, 2008 00:26

This sort of situation should make the Juve-Roma clashes even more interesting.

RGPII1 July 22nd, 2008 04:03

OneLoveSoccer: what happened in that game was Totti was getting whacked and kicked in the legs more than something that Poulsen said. I bet the wikipedia article on Totti would have something on this episode. The thing is, I've heard similar things have happened before but I can't quote. Totti has shown loyalty to Roma even though he could make big lire at other clubs, he has stuck with the team he's always been a fan of, AS Roma. Also, Totti has been in their system since he was about 17, 18, something like that, so it may be over 10 years he's played for the main squad.

RGPII1 July 22nd, 2008 09:27

Let me further clarify: just from Totti's allegations, he was kicked repeatedly in the legs in the game versus Denmark: but that is just his side and he may well have an ego. But if you look at the wikipedia article on Christian Poulsen, one sees he has been involved in a number of incidences, including, one that is rather bad, punching a Swedish player in the stomach in an international game. There can't be an excuse for behavior like that! I've got to think there is a good chance that Francesco was heavily provoked.

nassief45 July 22nd, 2008 10:06

yes tontodonati u said professionally,
even though he only played a few games during the 1992 season back when he was like sixteen he was still a professional.
also u dont know if we knew totti back then so dont assume
lots of people knew cristiano ronaldo before he got signed by man utd.
lots of people knew beckham before he was a man u first team regualar,

Tontodonati July 22nd, 2008 12:45

messief45. You may have known Ronaldo or even Beckham before they became regulars but it does not follow that you knew Totti. You are going from the specific to the general. Logic dictates that you go from the general to the specific. That's called deduction. Example: If you see 99 Italians drinking wine, you may assume that the next Italian you meet may also drink wine, rather than the other way around! In any case, as I told you before, look at the proper context of Kujiirii' first post.
