Germany coach Berti Vogts has been appointed by Azerbaijan and will lead his new side into their 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament.

The 61-year-old has signed a two-year contract and said he was looking forward to the challenge. "I am happy to take charge of this team and I hope that my work will be successful," Vogts said.
"I don't want to talk in advance about how many points we will score, especially given that our group is rather hard. At the moment the most important thing is to build a playing system for the Azerbaijan national team."
