Bayer 04 Leverkusen's slim chances of progressing to the last four of the UEFA Cup have been dealt a further blow with news that midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta will miss Thursday's quarter-final second leg against FC Zenit St. Petersburg with a groin injury.

Barnetta played no part in Leverkusen's 2-1 defeat at BV Borussia Dortmund on Sunday and the club confirmed he will continue to receive treatment this week while his team-mates travel to Russia bidding to overturn a 4-1 deficit from last week's hugely disappointing home leg.
