BERLIN (AFP) - Ten-man Borussia Dortmund lifted themselves up the Bundesliga table after Italian midfielder Giovanni Federico scored the winner in their 2-1 home victory over VfL Bochum on Friday night.
Having started the game 15th in the Bundesliga, just one place off the bottom three, Dortmund's win took them up to 10th while defeat leaves Bochum in 14th. The home side opened the scoring when Brazilian midfielder Tinga fired home on 16 minutes. But the guests hit back when Polish striker Marcin Mieciel equalised ten minutes from the half-time break. The home side were reduced to ten men when defender Christian Woerns was booked again for a heavy tackle and his second offence of the game earned him a red card on 58 minutes. But Dortmund's Federico saved his team-mate's blushes when he crashed home his winning shot in the 70th minute. League leaders Bayern Munich take on struggling German Cup holders Nuremberg at the Allianz Arena on Sunday, while defending champions VfB Stuttgart are at home to Hanover on Saturday. |
