DUISBURG, Germany (AFP) - Duisburg coach Rudi Bommer issued an ultimatum Wednesday to his Brazilian striker Ailton that his attitude over the following weeks would decide his future at the struggling Bundesliga club.

"I gave him his chance in the championship, I was patient, but now that's finished: he must do more at training and on the pitch," Bommer said.

Ailton, 34, hasn't scored a goal in four Bundesliga matches since his surprise arrival at Duisburg in August.

He is also at loggerheads with his club over his wish to head to Mexico to be with his wife, who recently gave birth to twins, and Ailton even missed training this week due to his wishes to be granted leave.

"I did everything in the off-season to get him here and now I'm waiting to see if we haven't made a mistake," said Bommer.

Ailton was leading goal scorer in the Bundesliga in 2003-04 while at Werder Bremen.

Ahead of the 12th round of the German championship, Duisberg are second last in the table with nine points and have lost their last seven matches.
