MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid denied Thursday being interested in securing the servies of Valencia and Spain striker David Villa, as reported in the Spanish press.
"At no stage did the club consider offering him (Villa) a contract, and therefore had no contact with him or his agents," the club said in a statement.
Spanish daily Marca reported Wednesday, quoting Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, that the club wanted to the buy Villa.
Villa's agent, Jose Luis Tamargo, told the newspaper he had not been contacted by Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old Villa, who has 26 caps and 13 goals for Spain, transferred from Real Zaragoza to Valencia in 2005 for 12 millions euros.
He has scored 40 goals in the Spanish league in the last two seasons.
