MADRID (AFP) - Barcelona's millionaires were slammed by the Spanish press on Friday for committing 'Barcicide' during their Spanish Cup elimination at the hands of modest Getafe on Thursday night.

Trailing 5-2 from the first leg in the Nou Camp, Getafe thrashed the reigning champions 4-0 to progress to a final clash against Sevilla with a 6-5 aggregate scoreline.

Sports daily AS merged the words Barcelona and suicide to come up with their assessment of Barca's display - "Barcicide at Getafe," it cried.

The Madrid based paper took great delight in Barca's defeat at the hands of the little club from the Madrid suburbs.

"A historic humiliation for Barcelona. The goals from (Daniel) Guiza (2), (Javi) Casquero and (Angel) Vivar Dorado made the miracle a reality."

It was not just AS marvelling at the remarkable turnaround as El Mundo joined the chorus of condemnation of the double champions.

"Modest Getafe squashed Barca and reached the Kings Cup final," said El Mundo.

"Total shame," lamented Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia before adding: "Barca has thrown away another trophy courtesy of a terrible match and lamentable attitude."

Barcelona now have only the league title to play for after previously being knocked out of Europe by Liverpool.

They lead bitter rivals Real Madrid by a single point in the title race but while their form is disintegrating, their rivals' is blossoming.
