PARIS (AFP) - Second-placed Nancy moved to within five points of leaders Lyon after snatching a 1-1 draw against ten-man Toulouse in Wednesday's French league game.
Congolese midfielder Chris Malonga's equaliser in the final minute ensured Nancy deprived the hosts of their first win in six matches. "We were bordering on the ridiculous, we made some bad choices," complained Nancy coach Pablo Correa, whose side suffered just their second loss of the season Saturday with their 2-1 reversal at Le Mans. Swedish striker Johan Elmander, the author of a hattrick in Sunday's 4-3 defeat at Bordeaux, opened after 18 minutes for Toulouse. But Toulouse were struggling after their goalie Nicolas Douchez was sent off just after the break and coach Elie Baup was banished from the touchline ten minutes from time. Toulouse missed a string of chances to put the result beyond a doubt, noteably when midfielder Achille Emana lost his duel with Nancy goalie Gennaro Bracigliano three minutes from time. Nancy pressed home their numerical advantage with Malonga's goal in the final minute of play leaving fourth-from-bottom Toulouse two points above the relegation zone. Nancy with 31 points from 16 games are five points behind Lyon. |
