SOFIA, Sep 12 (SW) - Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia have called for the Bulgarian top-flight to be reduced, arguing that many of the matches the top clubs play are pointless.

"We're trying to build a team who can compete with the top European sides but our cause is suffering from such pointless matches," Levski coach Stanimir Stoilov said.

"We'll have to cut the number of teams in the top division if we want to raise the level of the Bulgarian league. It's so obvious that some of them are not prepared for the premier league."

Stoilov added that the league should copy the example of the premier leagues in Austria, Scotland and Switzerland, where a smaller number of clubs ensures that the level of play remains high.
