SIENA, Oct 20 (SW) – Serie A minnows Siena have been handed a one point penalty after submitting player tax payments after the set deadline.
The July deadline for the payments was also missed by another club, with Serie B Pescara also failing to lodge the relevant paperwork and payments on time.
“This is a shocking decision and although it is demoralising, we will be appealing,” claimed Siena President Paolo De Luca, who was also handed a thee month suspension for his involvement.
Siena have made a positive start to the Serie A season, currently sitting in 5th spot. They will drop to 6th if the penalty is upheld by an appeals panel.
