COPENHAGEN, Nov 14 (SW) - Michael Laudrup has been elected as best Danish player ever, and received his award at a gala in Copenhagen.

The 42-year-old began his career at BK Copenhagen, and went on to play for Brondby, Juventus, Lazio Roma, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Vissel Kobe and Ajax Amsterdam.

In 1998, Laudrup helped Denmark to the quarter finals at the World Cup in France, the country's best performance at the global tournament ever.

Laudrup is currently without a job after a four-year stint as manager at Brondby.
