SEVILLE, Nov 5 (SW) - In a match marred by 11 bookings, Sevilla took out some revenge on the club that kept them out of the Champions League last season with a 2-0 win over Osasuna.
Osasuna, whose 2-1 win over Valencia on the finaly day last season helped them finish fourth in the table, put on a stubborn defensive performance in the first half to keep Sevilla frustrated for the first 45 minutes.
But Sevilla, who defeated Real Madrid 4-3 on that same day, finally broke through in the 50th minute as Frédéric Kanouté put one into the net from the penalty spot.
After that, both sides saw a steady stream of bookings as three Sevilla players and then six Osasuna players were cautioned, brining Osasuna's match total to eight and the overall number to 11.
Amid the disjointedness of the second half, Sevilla did manage to eke out a second goal in the 88th minute as Adriano put home to ensure the hosts claimed the points.
