PALERMO/VIGO, Nov 2 (SW) - Newcastle United went top of UEFA Cup Group H on Thursday with a stunning win at Palermo while Celta de Vigo were forced to settle for a home draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Palermo - Newcastle United 0-1
The Sicilians were the better side from the beginning with Franco Brienza having an early shot stopped by 18-year-old goalkeeper Tim Krul, and Gianni Munari also missing a chance.

But James Milner proved to be Palermo's kryptonite with his dashing runs up and down the pitch and in the 37th minute it paid off as he sent in a pin-point cross to the area where Albert Luque headed home the opening goal.

Debutant Krul was then called on to be the savior for the Magpies in the second half as did well to make a double save from Andrea Caracciolo and Mattia Cassani before later stopping Caracciolo again.

The fine goalkeeping allowed Newcastle to preserve their narrow lead and send them top of the group on maximum points.

Celta de Vigo - Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1
The Germans were thoroughly outmatched from the opening whistle, and it took the Galicians only 11 minutes to go in front when Jesüs Perera nodded home a cross by Ernesto Canobbio for the opener.

But Frankfurt would find themselves level in the 17th minute on what would be their only shot on target in the game as Alexander Huber himself cracked a header into the net to give the visitors some hope of salvaging a results.

Despite constant possession and pressure from Celta, the Frankfurt defense held firm and the home side failed to find a way past goalkeeper Oka Nikolov, allowing the visitors to escape with their first point.
