WOLFSBURG, Mar 18 (SW) - Hamburg closed the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to three points on Saturday as they secured a narrow victory away to Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg - Hamburg 0-1 Despite being eliminated from the UEFA Cup on Wednesday at the hands of Romanian side Rapid Bucuresti, Hamburg piled the pressure idle Bayern when Benjamin Lauth found the back of the net for the visitors on 21 minutes. Bayern play on Sunday at home against third-placed Schalke. Nürnberg - Werder Bremen 3-1 Nürnberg won their third straight league encounter as they beat a suddenly cold Werder Bremen club at Frankenstadion. Robert Vittek fired the home side into the lead in the 21st minute and Markus Schroth extended the advantage with nine minutes to play in the second half. After Miroslav Klose pulled a goal back for the visitors, Vittek bagged his second of the game in the 69th minute to secure the full three points. Borussia Mönchengladbach - Stuttgart 1-1 Stuttgart played out their 15th draw in 26 league tilts this season after coming from a goal behind to share the spoils with Gladbach. Milan Fukal had given the home side the lead in the 69th minute, but Cacau pulled Stuttgart level just six minutes later to send his team to five matches unbeaten. Hannover - Köln 1-0 Hannover's assault on the European places continued as they jumped to sixth in the table with a narrow victory over bottom side Köln. A 39th-minute goal by Vahid Hashemian was all Hannover needed to take all three points. Borussia Dortmund - Kaiserslautern 2-1 Dortmund are level on points with Hannover and Gladbach, but second out of the bunch on goal difference following a victory over relegation-threatened Kaiserslautern. Dedé put the home side in front in the 25th minute, but Ervin Skela canceled out that effort just before the half-time whistle. Florian Kringe, though, restored Dortmund's lead with the winner on 64 minutes. Eintracht Frankfurt - Duisburg 5-2 Another side in danger of being relegated, Duisburg, did nothing to help themselves as they were soundly beaten at Commerzbank Arena by Frankfurt, thanks in part to a hat-trick by Ioannis Amanatidis. Amanatidis put Frankfurt in front inside of the first minute and Benjamin Kohler doubled the lead just ten minutes later. Amanatidis' second goal just two minutes later made it 3-0 to the home side before Adam Bodzek and Klemen Lavric pulled back goals for Duisburg to cut the lead to 3-2 at half-time. Amanatidis completed his treble in the 57th minute and Francisco Copado's penalty secured the result. Duisburg finished with ten men after Uwe Mohrle was sent off in the 85th minute. Bayer Leverkusen - Mainz 1-2 Mainz got three big points to pull themselves only slightly clear of the drop zone after a Mohamed Zidan double lifted them to victory at Bayer Leverkusen. Zidan gave Mainz the lead with a goal in the 34th minute and then put them up two a half-hour later. Despite Paul Freier getting a goal back for Leverkusen with five minutes left, the home side got no closer and dipped into the bottom half of the table. |
