Netherlands: Feyenoord beat Ajax in Dutch Classic

ROTTERDAM, Feb 5 (SW) - Feyenoord defeated Ajax 3-2 in the 'Classic' on Sunday, to reconquer their second position in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Friday:

Willem II - RBC Roosendaal 3-1

But the action kicked off on Friday when Willem II hosted RBC in a provincial derby. Vos put the visitors ahead after only two minutes but Moussa Dembele levelled in the 59th.

The hosts from Tilburg eventually scored the winning goal through Anouar Hadouir (penalty) in the 90th minute, after which Sidney Lammens scored an own goal to set the score to 3-1.

Saturday:

PSV Eindhoven - Roda JC 3-2

PSV's task against Roda was anything but easy. Within five minutes, the visitors had a 0-2 lead with goals from Simon Cziommer and Sergio.

The league leaders got one back through Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who converted a penalty in the 7th minute. The striker also scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute, and Roda suffered another blow when Gregoor van Dijk was expulsed in the 63rd.

The winning goal came in the 65th minute, when the young Ismael Aissati scored for 3-2.

AZ Alkmaar - Vitesse 1-1

AZ Alkmaar dropped valuable points at the Alkmaarderhout on Saturday. Gretar Rafn Steinsson put the hosts in the lead after 13 minutes, but Gill Swerts levelled the score in the 40th.

FC Groningen - Heracles Almelo 0-0

No goals were scored at the new Euroborg stadium, where Groningen's initial good fortune seems to have come to an end. Due to this loss of points, the club moves down from the fourth to the fifth position.

NAC Breda - Sparta Rotterdam 0-0

Another scoreless draw was the result of the match between NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam. The hosts went down to ten when Timothy Derijck was sent off in the 40th minute.

Sunday:

Feyenoord - Ajax 3-2

Ajax were the stronger side in the opening phase but allowed Feyenoord's Nicky Hofs to open the score in the 21st minute. The visitors replied immediately however and Marcus Rosenberg levelled in the 23rd.

But from here on, Feyenoord were the dominant side at De Kuip stadium. Winger Romeo Castelen put the home side in the lead, just before the half time whistle.

Three minutes into the second half, Dirk Kuijt added a third for Feyenoord, with which the striker becomes the first player to score in five consecutive meetings between these two clubs.

Former Heerenveen striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar got a consolation goal for Ajax in stoppage time. Feyenoord now have 51 points from 22 games, three points less than PSV and two more than AZ. Ajax meanwhile, are 8th with only 33 points.

RKC Waalwijk - NEC Nijmegen 1-3

NEC Nijmegen moved into fourth position with a 1-3 win at RKC. Robert Fuchs put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute but things were turned around by Romano Denneboom in the 42nd minute and Said Boutahar in the 76th. Andrzej Niedzielan added another in the 87th minute.

The hosts spent the last half hour of the match with ten players on the pitch after Hans van de Haar's red card in the 61st minute.

SC Heerenveen - ADO Den Haag

Heerenveen needed less than sixty seconds to open the score through Lasse Nilsson, who also scored the second and third goals in the 33rd and 78th minutes to give the hosts a valuable 3-0 victory.

FC Twente - FC Utrecht 3-0

Kennedy Bakircioglu opened the score for the home team in the 69th minute, and Sharbel Touma added a second in the 80th. A third and final goal came from Blaise N'Kufo in the 86th minute.
