Germany: Top three win in Bundesliga

MUNICH, Feb 4 (SW) - Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV made no mistakes in the German Bundesliga on Saturday, while Schalke 04 were held to a scoreless draw by Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich - Bayer Leverkusen 1-0

Bayern Munich earned three points against struggling Bayer Leverkusen. The only and therefore decisive goal came from Michael Ballack in the 36th minute.

Werder Bremen - Mainz 4-2

Only one minute was needed for Mainz to open the score through Mohamed Zidan, and the visitors even added a second through Niclas Weiland in the 13th minute.

But Werder found their way back into the game with goals from Nelson Valdez in the 39th minute and Ivan Klasnic in the 45th. And just before half time, Johan Micoud added a third to put the hosts in the lead. Nelson Valdez scored another goal in the 70th minute, for a 4-2 final score.

Hamburger SV - Arminia Bielefeld 2-1

Arminia Bielefeld took the lead with a goal from Isaac Boakye in the 26th minute, but the home side turned things around through Piotr Trochowski in the 52nd minute and Sergej Barbarez in the 73rd.

Schalke 04 - Borussia Dortmund 0-0

Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund held each other to a scoreless draw in Gelsenkirchen. Due to this result, Schalke loses touch with third-placed Hamburg while Borussia risk losing their 8th position to Hannover, who play on Sunday.

Eintracht Frankfurt - Hertha BSC 1-1

Hertha BSC opened the score with a goal from Kevin Boateng in the 20th minute, but Jermaine Jones equalized for Frankfurt in the 58th. Alexander Madlung was sent off for the visiting side in the 69th minute.

Cologne - VfB Stuttgart 0-0

No goals were scored at Cologne versus VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart may lose their 6th position to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday, while Cologne fail to get out of the relegation zone.

Duisburg - Kaiserslautern 2-2

Duisburg had a secure lead with goals from Markus Kurth in the 40th minute and Mihai Tararache in the 62nd, but Kaiserslautern earned themselves a point as Daniel Halfar scored in the 79th and 82nd minutes for a 2-2 final score.
