SAN SEBASTIÁN, Feb 19 (SW) - Valencia came from a goal down to move back into second place in La Liga with a victory over Real Sociedad while Osasuna remain fourth with a win at Cádiz. Elsewhere, relegation candidates Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca claimed away wins.
Real Sociedad - Valencia 1-2 Danish international forward Morten Skoubo fired the Basque hosts in front within the first minute of the match after getting on the end of a long pass, but a patient Valencia side showed their skill and equalized through Mario Regueiro in the 69th minute. The Uruguyan struck again in the 78th minute after an errant backpass and easily scored the winner to put Valencia back to within six points of Barcelona. Cádiz - Osasuna 1-3 Osasuna remained in the Champions League places, also coming from a goal down to claim victory on Sunday. Lucas Lobos hit a beautiful free kick in the 15th minute to give the Andalucians the lead, but Savo Milosevic used his head to pull the side from Pamplona level 20 minutes later. Shortly thereafter, David López put Osasuna in front with a free kick of his own, and Cádiz had their hopes dashed when Alexander Medina was sent off in the 76th minute for his second yellow card. Raúl García secured the full points for Osasuna with an insurance goal on 89 minutes. Málaga - Mallorca 0-2 Mallorca jumped off the bottom of the table and sent Málaga down to the basement with a win over the south coast club at La Rosaleda. The islanders, in their first match under Gregorio Manzano, went in front in the 54th minute with a nice goal by striker Leonardo Pisculichi and their first win in 10 games was sealed as Alejandro Campano fired in a goal in the last minute. Eduardo Tuzzio picked up his second yellow card for Mallorca and was sent off at the death. Racing Santander - Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Trying to avoid relegation for the first time in their club's history, Athletic Bilbao recorded a big win at Racing Santander to go up to 15th place, although they are still only two points off of the bottom. Despite a clear edge in possession to the home side, Bilbao struck late as Ismael Urzáiz scored on the counter in what was the visitors' first effort on target. Racing's frustration was compounded as José Moraton was dismissed for his second bookable offense late on. Deportivo La Coruña - Zaragoza 1-1 Ten-man Depor had to come from a goal down to earn a point against Zaragoza at the Riazor on Sunday. Red-hot Diego Milito put Zaragoza in front just 13 minutes in with a header off of a free kick by Leonardo Ponzio, but Pedro Munitis hit a gem of a free kick himself that found the back of the net in the 55th minute. The Galicians held on in the final moments after having fullback Fabricio Coloccini dismissed with eight minutes to play for his second yellow card. Getafe - Atlético Madrid 0-3 Atlético's hopes of earning a spot in Europe next season stayed alive after the comfortably beat local rivals Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. Peter Luccin fired the visitors in front with a goal on the half-hour mark, leaving the match at 1-0 heading to the dressing rooms at the break. Atlético came out firing on all cylinders after the restart and extended their lead four minutes in as Maxi found the back of the net and Fernando Torres made it 3-0 in the 64th minute. |
