MALAGA, Feb 1 (SW) – Former Spanish international Fernando Hierro has moved from his sporting director’s role at Malaga to head coach.

Hierro has been forced into the role following the dismissal of Antonio Tapia, but in what is sure to be an eye opening experience, it will be the first time he takes charge of a team.

"It is the first time I've been put in charge of coaching a team," admitted Hierro.

"But I have the confidence of the board and feel secure in this position."

Club President Antonio Mendoza has given a ringing endorsement of the former Real Madrid hero, saying he will fight tooth-and-nail to keep the club in the Primera Liga.

"Hierro will be coach to the end of this season. He is the best one to be in charge because he will give his life to keep this club in the Primera Liga."
