NEWCASTLE, Dec 20 (SW) - Chelsea are through to the semi finals of the English Carling Cup following a 0-1 win at Newcastle.

The Magpies and the Blues held their sheets clean for a long time on Wednesday night, but Ivorian striker Didier Drogba scored his second winner in four days time in the 79th minute.

Newcastle were not given the time to react and Chelsea advance to the next round.

Mourinho's team is joined by Tottenham Hotspur, who needed until late in extra time to make a difference against Southend United. Jermain Defoe scored the winning goal in the 115th minute.
