JOHANNESBURG, Dec 15 (SW) – It was announced here today by the South African Football Association that former South African captain and former Tottenham Hotspur defender Mbulelo Mabizela had been banned for six months.
He received his ban for drug abuse after a test was returned positive after it had found to contain traces of marijuana. He was fined R70 000 ($7 000). The twenty six year old has had a controversial career. He lasted for only one year at Spurs after having missed a series of practices plus further misdemeanours. He then spent a season at Norwegian club Valerenga but rarely featured in their championship winning season last year and was released this June. Mabizela was stripped of the South African captaincy in 2004 after arriving late for a training camp. In August of this year he signed for South African champions Sundowns. |
