DORTMUND, Dec 18 (Sw) - Borussia Dortmund have approached former succes-coach Ottmar Hitzfeld to take over from Bert van Marwijk during the Winter.

Director Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed to a local newspaper that the 57-year-old coach has received an offer from the Ruhrgebiet outfit, and that there will be an 'evaluation' of current manager Van Marwijk on tuesday.

The Dutchman's position at the club is very uncertain. Earlier, he announced he will certainly leave the club after this season while a bad patch of results did not help him much. Borussia lost this weekend to Bayer Leverkusen.

Van Marwijk claims he has not been informed of next Tuesday's meeting. "I spoke to Watzke and he did not mention it. We will be training on Tuesday," he said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Hitzfeld would be ready for a second spell at the club. He was highly succesful with Borussia during the 1990's, and also winning the 1997 Champion's League. He repeated the feat with Bayern Munchen in 2001.

Earlier this week, Hitzfeld said he rejected an offer from beleagured Hamburger SV, adding it would take an 'extraordinary offer' to get him back to Bundesliga managing.
