ZURICH, Dec 1 (SW) – It has been confirmed by UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, that they have opened an enquiry into the violence that marred last night’s UEFA Cup tie at Nancy’s Marcel Picot Stadium between Nancy at Feyenoord from the Netherlands.

Dutch fans had begun running amok in the stands when tear gas from the police who were trying to control the rampaging fans drifted on to the field.

Play had to be interrupted at that stage.

According to UEFA the decision taken by UEFA will be made known in ten days.

The report by a UEFA delegate who was present at the match will be made available to UEFA on Monday.
