EINDHOVEN, Aug 20 (SW) - Reigning champions PSV Eindhoven have won their opening match of the season, beating NEC Nijmegen 3-1 at the Philips Stadium.

Captain Phillip Cocu scored the opening goal in the 44th minute, with which the midfielder netted PSV's first goal of the season for the second year in a row.

A minute later, a second was added by Brazilian central defender Alex and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who seems close to a Celtic move, scored a third in the 57th minute.

Rutger Worm got NEC a consolation goal with two minutes left to play.
