SAO PAULO, Apr 28 (SW) - Ex-Real Madrid coach Wanderley Luxemburgo received a 60-days ban from the touchline for calling a referee gay after a match. The referee didn’t comment but prosecuted the coach.

Luxemburgo, who is now the head coach at his beloved Brazilian club, Santos claimed after his side’s 3-1 loss against Sao Paulo that the referee of the match must be gay:

"When he whistled, he always looked at me. He may have fancied me, it may be that I was wearing a pink shirt, but I am not gay.”

Carlos Cintra, the official leading the match did not comment the case, but prosecuted Luxemburgo in Sao Paulo. The city counsel dealing with sport affairs gave him right in first place.
Santos however have appealed against the judgment so that Luxemburgo is allowed to sit down on the bench for some more time.

54-year old Luxemburgo is one of Brazil’s most successful coaches, who won the Brazilian league five times and has finished with Santos in first place of the latest Paulista championship. Last year he led Real Madrid but was largely unsuccessful in leading the crop of stars to achieving consistent form.

Controversy however is never been far from the man, with him having to resign from leading the Brazilian national team due to allegations against him for illegal tax affairs.
