MONTBÉLIARD, Apr 23 (SW) - Bordeaux inched closer toward securing second place in Ligue 1 on Sunday with a comprehensive victory over Sochaux. Champions Lyon, meanwhile, were beaten at Monaco.

Sochaux - Bordeaux 0-3

Julien Faubert opened the scoring for the visitors after 19 minutes with a well-placed shot off of Jean-Claude Darcheville's cross, and David Jemmali doubled the lead eight minutes later from the edge of the area.

The match was sealed early in the second half as Darcheville headed home in the 56th minute.

Bordeaux are now six points ahead of third-placed Lille with three matches remaining for all teams in the league.

Monaco - Lyon 2-1

Lyon, in search of setting a new record for points in a single French season, were denied that opportunity by Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

Ernesto Chevantón put Francesco Guidolin's men in front after 33 minutes before Marco Di Vaio doubled the advantage two minutes before the hour mark.

A late consolation by Norwegian forward John Carew pulled Lyon to within a goal, but they got no closer.

The record for most points in a season is 79 set by Lyon in both 2003/04 and 2004/05.
