ROOSENDAAL, Apr 2 (SW) - PSV Eindhoven have practically secured the Dutch title following a 1-2 win over RBC on Saturday. Their opponents had no reason to celebrate as the team from Roosendaal are officially relegated.
Friday: FC Utrecht - RKC Waalwijk 3-1 The action kicked off on Friday with FC Utrecht hosting RKC Waalwijk. Edson Braafheid broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 25th minute and Adil Ramzi added a second in the 51st. RKC came back through former Utrecht player Hans van de Haar in the 52nd minute but the home side decided the clash through Marc-Antoine Fortune in the 79th. Saturday: RBC Roosendaal - PSV Eindhoven 1-2 Leaders PSV showed a weak performance but did win in Roosendaal. The hosts, who needed points to avoid relegation, took the lead through Ebou Sillah in the 31st minute but things were turned around by Ibrahim Afellay in the 60th minute and Alex in the 67th. PSV may be certain of their title when AZ play their match against NAC on Tuesday. This match was initially scheduled for Sunday. See below. NEC Nijmegen - SC Heerenveen 4-1 NEC had an easy win over SC Heerenveen at the Goffert stadium in Nijmegen. The visiting side opened the score through Lasse Nilsson in the 17th minute but Andrzej Niedzielan levelled just before the break. A foul from Marcel Seip earned the player a red card in the 65th minute and the following penalty was converted by Patrick Pothuizen, putting NEC in the lead. Romano Denneboom ended Heerenveen's hopes in the 71st minute and Giulliano Grot added another in the 86th. Heracles Almelo - Sparta 1-0 Sparta failed to leave the relegation zone, suffering a 1-0 defeat at Heracles in Almelo. The only goal of the match was scored by Kwame Quansah in the 43rd minute. ADO Den Haag - Willem II 1-1 Willem II opened the score through Moussa Dembele with 74 minutes on the clock, but ADO secured a point with a goal from Roy Stroeve in the dying minutes. Sunday: AZ Alkmaar - NAC Breda pst. The match at the Alkmaarderhout was postponed due to heavy rainfall. Had AZ dropped points, the championship title would officially go to PSV. The match will now be played at 8pm local time on Tuesday. Feyenoord - FC Twente 4-2 A match of many mistakes had Feyenoord ending up on the right side of the score. Salomon Kalou (6th) and Dirk Kuijt (pen, 23rd) had given Feyenoord a safe lead at the Kuip stadium, but Twente came back through Patrick Gerritsen and Blaise N'Kufo in the 25th and 39th minutes respectively. But Feyenoord did not give up and Kuijt scored another in the 61st minute to restore the lead. Salomon Kalou got a second as well, for 4-2 in the 65th minute. Roda JC - Ajax 2-1 Ajax crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Roda JC and risk missing play-off participation for a Champions League spot. Klaas Jan Huntelaar did put Danny Blind's side ahead in the 18th minute but an own goal from Olaf Lindenbergh levelled the score nine minutes later. A red card from Juanfran gave Roda a numeric advantage in the 78th minute and Edrissa Sonko decided the match with a goal in added time, 2-1. Groningen - Vitesse 2-1 Groningen defeated Vitesse and now share the fifth place with Ajax, who do have a better goal record. The numbers two to five will battle for a place in the Champions League third preliminary round in a new play-off system. The hosts were never really threatened by Vitesse, and had Erik Nevland scoring in the 38th and 50th minute. The visitors got a consolation goal through Richard Knopper in stoppage time. |
