ALKMAAR, Apr 16 (SW) - AZ Alkmaar secured their second place in the Dutch Eredivisie while FC Groningen surpassed Utrecht on the final day to take the fifth position.

NAC Breda - PSV Eindhoven 2-6

Champions PSV had an easy win over NAC, who will now have to face teams from the first division to avoid relegation.

The visitors took a more than comfortable lead with two goals each for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Jefferson Farfán. Johan Vonlanthen, former PSV striker, got one back for NAC in the 55th minute but Mika Vayrynen soon restored the gap.

Timothy Derijck scored another for the home side in the 69th but a late goal from PSV captain Philip Cocu set the final score to 2-6.

SC Heerenveen - AZ Alkmaar 2-4

A draw would have been enough for AZ to secure their second spot in the league, and Louis van Gaal's men took no risks, beating their opponents 2-4.

Danny Koevermans and Stein Huysegems were each responsible for two goals, while Mark de Vries and Danijel Pranjic scored for Heerenveen, who finish seventh and will be playing to enter the UEFA Cup.

Feyenoord - RBC Roosendaal 2-0

Feyenoord needed until the 71st minute to break the deadlock against RBC, who finish the season in last position. A foul from José Fortes Rodriguez had the player sent off and the following penalty kick was converted by Dirk Kuijt.

Pierre van Hooijdonk, who left NAC to return to Rotterdam earlier this season, added a second goal twelve minutes later.

RKC Waalwijk - Ajax 2-4

Ajax had already secured their spot in the Dutch Champions League play-offs on the penultimate matchday. Anthony Lurling did put RKC in the lead after 18 minutes, but things were turned around by Johnny Heitinga in the 26th and Klaas Jan Huntelaar (penalty) in the 44th.

Nourdin Boukhari netted Ajax' third in the 51st minute, and Huntelaar got another in the 86th. Tim Peters did something back for RKC in added time, but it was not sufficient.

FC Twente - FC Groningen 1-1

Despite being held to a draw, Groningen managed to take the fifth place in the league. The numbers two to five will be entering a play-off system to decide which team will join PSV in the Champions League.

Yuri Cornelisse did put Groningen in the lead after 78 minutes, but Guilherme Afonso levelled the score ten minutes later.

FC Utrecht - Willem II 1-4

Utrecht thought to have an easy task against 17th-placed Willem II at Nieuw Galgenwaard stadium, and things looked even better when Tom Caluwe opened the score within the minute.

But Iwan Redan equalized for Willem II in the 17th minute and Zsombor Kerekes even put the visitors ahead in the 49th.

Redan got another in the 54th, and Martijn Reuser set the score to 1-4 with six minutes left to play. Due to this defeat, Utrecht lose their valuable fifth spot to Groningen with a difference of only one point.

Roda JC - Heracles Almelo 2-1

Heracles joined the Eredivisie this season and achieved some impressive results. Against Roda JC it was not meant to happen however as Sekou Cissé (27th) and Simon Cziommer (penalty, 38th) gave the hosts a secure lead.

Stefaan Tanghe got one back for Heracles in the 76th minute. Roda finish the season in 8th place, which is enough for domestic UEFA Cup play-offs.

Vitesse - NEC Nijmegen 1-1

The provincial derby between arch rivals Vitesse and NEC had no winner on Sunday, as the two teams held each other to a 1-1 draw. A penalty from Tininho put the visiting side in the lead after 42 minutes, but Remco van der Schaaf avoided humiliation by equalizing in the 89th.

The two teams both miss play-offs for European football, as NEC finish in 10th place, followed by Vitesse in 11th. Van der Schaaf's goal could not have been any more painful for NEC, as the team from Nijmegen would otherwise have reached the UEFA Cup play-offs.

Only the numbers five to nine enter these play-offs: FC Utrecht, SC Heerenveen, Roda JC and FC Twente.

ADO Den Haag - Sparta Rotterdam 0-2

ADO Den Haag lost to Sparta Rotterdam, but NAC's result against PSV means that both teams are safe for next season.

Ricky van den Bergh broke the deadlock for Sparta in the 62nd minute, and Ivan Cvetkov added a second, four minutes later.
