CAGLIARI, Apr 15 (SW) - Juventus needed a late goal to avoid defeat in Sardinia against Cagliari on Saturday and Fiorentina and Roma swapped spots in the Serie A table.
Cagliari - Juventus 1-1 David Suazo fired the home side into the lead on the stroke of half-time when he converted from the penalty spot, and it looked as if they would claim an unlikely three points until Fabio Cannavaro struck at the death in the second half to level the match. Treviso - Fiorentina 1-3 Serie A leading scorer Luca Toni added another goal to his tally in the 24th minute to give the visitors the lead, but Marco Borriello struck back for bottom side Treviso to level in the 39th minute. The second half, though, belonged to Fiorentina as Cristian Brocchi gave them the lead four minutes in before Riccardo Montolivo sealed the victory with six minutes left to play. Palermo - Roma 3-3 Palermo had the performance of the day in Serie A, coming from three goals down at half-time to earn a draw against Roma, who were replaced in fourth place by Fiorentina. Rodrigo Taddei opened the scoring for Roma in the 23rd minute before Brazilian forward Mancini scored two rapid-fire goals before the half-hour mark. David Di Michele began the comeback five minutes into the second half, and Simone Barone pulled it to within 3-2 just two minutes later. Barone then scored the dramatic equalizer with ten minutes left to play, earning a point for Palermo. Lazio - Livorno 3-1 A penalty by Massimo Oddo opened the scoring for Lazio in the 20th minute, but Livorno found themselves level at Stadio Olimpico in the 52nd minute through Giuseppe Colucci. Macedonian international Goran Pandev then stole the show, scoring twice in the second half to guide the Roman side to the victory while Livorno finished with ten men after Jorge Vargas was dismissed in the 82nd minute. Chievo - Messina 2-0 Chievo stayed in contention for a UEFA Cup berth despite finishing with ten men as they defeated relegation candidates Messina. Franco Semioli fired Chievo into the lead after a quarter-hour had been played and it looked as if the advantage went in favor of Messina when Davide Mandelli was sent off for Chievo in the 54th minute. Chievo, though, held firm and added an insurance goal from the penalty spot late on from Victor Obinna. Sampdoria - Parma 1-2 Sampdoria went in front after 39 minutes when Luigi Sala found the back of the net, but Parma leveled from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute through Bernardo Corradi. Australian international Mark Bresciano scored the winner for the visitors at the death to give Parma the full points. Reggina - Ascoli 2-0 Reggina struck twice early on to see them to victory over Ascoli, Gaetano De Rosa opening the scoring after ten minutes and Nicola Amoruso doubling the lead ten minutes later. Reggina had Carlos Paredes sent off at the end. Empoli - Siena 2-1 Quick-firing Francesco Tavano struck twice within a minute in the first half to give Empoli a 2-0 lead that held until Erjon Bogdani pulled a goal back for Siena three minutes from time. Lecce - Udinese 1-2 Barreto fired Udinese in front after 25 minutes were played, but second-from-bottom Lecce equalized in the 38th minute through Guillermo Giacomazzi. Antonio Di Natale's goal on the hour mark secured victory for Udinese in what they will consider a thoroughly disappointing season. |
