EINDHOVEN, Apr 12 (SW) - Fresh champions PSV Eindhoven held Feyenoord to a draw at the Philips stadium, while AZ drew with FC Twente and failed to officially secure their second place.
PSV - Feyenoord 1-1 For PSV, the clash with Feyenoord was not as special as it would have been in any other situation, as Guus Hiddink's side already clinched the championship on Sunday. Winger Romeo Castelen put Feyenoord in the lead after 51 minutes, but PSV captain Phillip Cocu levelled the score in the 70th. AZ Alkmaar - FC Twente 0-0 As Feyenoord dropped points in Eindhoven, an AZ victory would secure the second place for Louis van Gaal's men. However, no goals were scored at the Alkmaarderhout due to which the battle will have to be decided on the final day. Ajax - Vitesse 2-1 Ajax only just managed to take three valuable points against Vitesse. A defeat would have left Danny Blind's team in sixth position, which is not enough for Champions League play-offs. Youssouf Hersi opened the score for Vitesse in the 62nd minute, but striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar levelled in the 89th. Ajax would even get a winning goal through Greek forward Angelos Charisteas in added time. FC Groningen - FC Utrecht 2-1 In the battle for fifth place, FC Groningen defeated FC Utrecht. Both teams now have 55 points, but Utrecht have a better goal record and are currently fifth. Koen van de Laak and Rasmus Lindgren gave the hosts a secure lead with goals in the 50th and 59th minutes respectively, and Utrecht's only goal at Euroborg stadium came from Tom Caluwe in the 74th minute. Willem II - SC Heerenveen 4-3 SC Heerenveen's Champions League hopes were ended as the Frisians crashed to a 4-3 defeat at Willem II in Tilburg. Moussa Dembele (10th) and Iwan Redan (20th) gave the home side a comfortable lead, but things were turned around by Mark de Vries (44th), Paul Bosvelt (59th) and Arnold Bruggink (63rd). But Willem II did not give up and managed to take the victory thanks to goals from again Dembele and Redan, in the 71st and 90th minutes. NEC Nijmegen - Roda JC 0-3 Roda JC had an easy win over NEC in Nijmegen. Cristiano took care of the first two goals in the 9th and 66th minutes, and a third was added by Sekou Cisse in stoppage time. Sparta - RKC Waalwijk 3-2 RKC took the lead in two occasions, through Hans van de Haar and Steve Olfers (own goal), but Sparta's Jason Oost levelled from the penalty spot both times. The hosts would also get a winning goal, through Ivan Cvetkov in the 83rd minute. Heracles Almelo - NAC Breda 4-2 NAC drop down to the relegation zone following a defeat by Heracles. The visitors took a 0-2 lead with goals from Leonardo and Ronnie Stam, but Gert Jan Tamerus, Sota Hirayama, Stefaan Tanghe and Marc Hocher then went on to turn things around and set the score to 4-2. RBC Roosendaal - ADO Den Haag 1-2 Last placed RBC took the lead with a goal from Ebou Sillah in the 52nd minute, but Edwin de Graaf equalized for Den Haag in the 75th. Five minutes later, it was Roy Stroeve to decide the match from eleven meters, 1-2. |
