BARCELONA, Apr 1 (SW) - Real Madrid held FC Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou on Saturday, but there is no reason to celebrate as the gap between the two teams remains eleven points.
FC Barcelona - Real Madrid 1-1 A foul from Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos on Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel had a penalty as result in the 22nd minute, and Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho made no mistake from the spot. A few minutes later, Roberto Carlos was again the center of attention as a discussion with the referee, following a foul on Henrik Larsson, earned the defender his second yellow card. Barcelona continued to apply pressure on their arch rivals but the visitors scored an unexpected equaliser through Ronaldo in the 37th minute. The striker received the ball from Julio Baptista and lifted it over goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Neither side managed to get a winning goal, with Barcelona creating most chances. Other than Roberto Carlos' red card, official warnings were given to Van Bommel and Van Bronckhorst of Barcelona, as well as Helguera, Ronaldo, Mejia, Baptista and Beckham of Real Madrid. Zaragoza - Villarreal 0-1 While most fans focused on the Clasico in Barcelona, Villarreal did themselves a favor by beating Zaragoza by a single goal from Garcia Roger in the 45th minute. Real Sociedad - Malaga 3-0 Real Sociedad were never really troubled by Malaga, who ended the match with nine players due to Juan Rodriguez' and Richard Javier Morales' red cards. Ion Ansotegi put the Basques ahead in the 36th minute and Morten Skoubo doubled the gap in the 68th. The third and final goal came from Xabier Prieto in the 82nd minute. |
