BAHÍA BLANCA, Dec 14 (SW) - Boca Juniors claimed their first title in Argentina since the 2003 Apertura championship by claiming the 2005 Apertura with a 2-1 win at Olimpo on Wednesday.

Boca's nearest competitors, second-placed Gimnasia La Plata, drew 1-1 at Banfield to finish three points back of the champions.

Ismael Blanco put Olimpo into the lead just seven minutes into the proceedings in Bahía Blanca, leaving Boca fans on edge, but defender Daniel Diaz pulled the visitors level just two minutes later to boost the hopes of the fans who traveled hoping to celebrate a title.

They were overcome with joy, then, on 40 minutes when Federico Insúa, who last won a title with Independiente in the 2003 Clausura, scored to lift Boca into a 2-1 lead which they would not relinquish.

Gimnasia were looking for their first title in Argentina since the 1929 Argentinian Amateur Championship. They have finshed as runners-up in the professional championships now five times, the most recent being in the 2002 Clausura behind River Plate.
