YOKOHAMA, Dec 18 (SW) - Brazilian team Sao Paulo have won the FIFA Club World Championship by beating European champions FC Liverpool in the final.
The only goal of the match was scored by Mineiro in the 27th minute. The English opponents claimed it has been off-side but the referee disagreed and allowed the goal.
Liverpool then went on to attack Sao Paulo's goal for the remaining sixty-three minutes but were unfortunate. A header from Luis Garcia hit the crossbar and the referee disallowed no less than three goals.
For the 'Reds', the goal conceded in this match was the first in twelve games.
Earlier on Sunday, Saprissa had beaten Al Ittihad for third place. The Costa Ricans took the lead through Alvaro Saborio in the 11th minute, but Mohammed Kallon levelled in the 28th.
Joseph Desire Job even put the Saudi Arabians in the lead with a converted penalty in the 53rd, but Saborio equalised from a spotkick in the 85th. The decision came four minutes later, when Ronald Gomez scored the winning goal in Saprissa's favour.
